Chastain

Laura Chastain has good advice for lawyers who want to stay out of trouble with the Board of Professional Responsibility: attend her upcoming continuing legal education seminar in Chattanooga.

Titled “How to stay out of trouble with the Board of Professional Responsibility,” the seminar will take place at the Walden Club, 633 Chestnut St., from 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. The first 45 minutes will consist of registration and a buffet lunch; Chastain will speak from noon to 1 p.m.

Attendees will earn one hour of DUAL CLE credit approved for Tennessee.

The cost is $65 for members of the Chattanooga Bar Association (CBA) and $80 for non-members.

Chastain will address:

  • Fee contracts
  • Reasonable fees to charge
  • Fees most complained about
  • Factors that make fees reasonable
  • Conflict of interest
  • Confidentiality
  • Diligence
  • Meeting deadlines
  • How to get help
  • What to do when you get a complaint

Chastain is ethics counsel for the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee.  She is licensed in Tennessee, Texas and Kentucky and has been in private practice as in-house counsel for a Tennessee corporation.

Chastain previously served as a hearing committee member for the Board of Professional Responsibility and was deputy chief disciplinary counsel for 17 years.

She has been a speaker at CLE seminars and has been teaching ethics and professionalism classes at the Nashville School of Law since 2003.
