CO.LAB, Unum, Erlanger to launch health care startup accelerator

The Company Lab, Unum and Erlanger are partnering to launch a health care startup accelerator beginning in the spring of 2019. The accelerator will provide entrepreneurs with an opportunity to work with large-scale leaders in health care and the employee benefits market.

“This partnership creates a platform to accelerate growing companies in the region by providing them with insights into the markets Erlanger and Unum represent,” says Marcus Shaw, CEO of CO.LAB. “At the same time, our partners will have the opportunity to apply entrepreneurial thinking and innovative solutions to challenges in the health care and employee benefits industries.”

Ted Reed, vice president of business development for Unum, says the health care startup accelerator gives the company a chance to explore the challenges its clients face and devise solutions to better serve them.

“The creation of new jobs and enhanced digital capabilities also opens the door to better opportunities for top talent to succeed in the Chattanooga community,” Reed adds.

Matt Gibson, Erlanger chief strategy officer, says the collaborative health care accelerator initiative is a perfect fit for the hospital. “It not only supports our growing emphasis on world class clinical research and innovations in medical technology, but also ties to Erlanger’s teaching mission.

“Most importantly, this collaborative effort serves as a key investment toward improving the health status of the entire region.”
