Attorney Secor joins Thomas & Thomas

Attorney Albert Secor has joined Thomas & Thomas, bringing more than 50 years of practicing law with local law firms and on his own to the firm.

Secor graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts in accounting. He also earned his J.D., with a concentration in taxes and corporations, at Emory. Secor then earned a master’s of law in taxation from New York University.

Secor’s practice has focused on estate planning, administration of trust accounts and promoting estate and trust services.

His experience includes authoring “Tennessee Probate,” a guide for lawyers and legal assistants in the administering of probate estates, and “Tennessee Elder Law,” a guide for lawyers and legal assistants in assisting clients with preparations for their elder years.

An active teacher, Secor served as an adjunct professor in the Cleveland State Community College legal assistant program and adjunct professor at UTC.

He authored seminar materials used throughout the United States on the preparation of U.S. estate tax and U.S. fiduciary income tax returns and on estate planning and the drafting of various types of will and trusts. Secor also taught the seminars.

Secor is a frequent speaker throughout Tennessee at estate planning councils and bar association programs as well as occasional presentations at the Duke Estate Planning Conference.

He and a group of similarly qualified lawyers from across Tennessee have been instrumental in enacting legislation to modernize Tennessee’s laws in the areas of wills, trusts, probate, guardianship and conservatorship and taxes, resulting in Tennessee being a leading jurisdiction for these matters in the country.

Secor is a member of the Chattanooga, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (elected in 1981), the Tennessee Probate Study Committee and the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga. He’s also a founding member and chair of Tennessee Probate Study Committee.

Secor has received various honors, including being named in “The Best Lawyers in America.”

He supports several charity groups and publicly funded organizations, is married, has one stepson and resides in the Hixson area.

Thomas & Thomas joined the Chattanooga legal community in 2017 to provide litigation, mediation and representation services. The father-son duo of former Hamilton County Circuit Judge Neil Thomas III and Michael Thomas lead the firm.
