Voter registration drives
A taskforce comprised of community leaders and pastors are teaming up to launch GOVoteCHA. Through this nonpartisan effort, organizers will host voter registration rallies throughout the Greater Chattanooga Area to educate residents about the importance of civic participation and to encourage them to register to vote.
The outreach events and voter registration rallies will be held Saturdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the following locations: Sept. 24 – Olivet Baptist Church (740 E. Martin Luther King Blvd.); and Oct. 1 – Westside Baptist Church (4001 Hughes Ave.).
Volunteers, including several attorneys, will be on hand to answer questions, register voters, and update registrations. The registration deadline to vote in this year’s presidential election is Oct. 11, and early voting in Hamilton County begins on Oct. 19. For sculptors and art lovers
Artists and art lovers will have an opportunity to hear a presentation by internationally known sculptor John Henry on Saturday, Sept. 24. ConFab, hosted by the Mid-South Sculpture Alliance (MSA), will kick off at 9 a.m. at Chattanooga State, and will feature an address by Henry followed by a discussion between the sculptor and the audience. After a tour of Sculpture Fields and Henry’s studio complex at 2 p.m., the event will culminate with the Masters Award Dinner at Henry’s Southside studio home. During the meal, the MSA will present its Master’s Award for lifetime achievement to Henry, who is known worldwide for his large-scale public works of art. New Chattanooga Community Expo
On Saturday, Oct. 1, “The Tenesha Irvin Show” will present the 2nd annual New Chattanooga Community Expo at the Avondale Youth and Family Development Center, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. This is free event includes a vendor expo, inspirational speakers, an old-school car show, basketball three-point shootout, games, free food and more. The expo is intended to connect businesses, organizations, churches and municipalities with people living in the Avondale community.
