Mrs. Hassie Brooks Bass, widow of former Mayor E.D. Bass, died Saturday morning at her home on East Main Street. She was a former president of Oak Manor (formerly the Old Ladies Home).
W.E. Ragland, III has been promoted from vice-president to president of Mulkey & Jackson Supermarkets, it was announced Friday by Millis F. Mulkey, chairman of the board. Charles Ragland has been promoted to vice president. J. H. Jackson, one of the company’s founders, will continue as secretary and treasurer.
Sunday, July 26
Some 10,000 people consumed over eight tons of Brainerd Kiwanis barbecue at the annual feast Saturday at Brainerd Community Center. Irvin L. Huber was general chairman of the event. Proceeds from the event support the Club’s youth program.
National Jamboree Troop 74, recruited from the Cherokee Area Boy Scout District, was the only one of the 1,600 assembled at Valley Forge, Pa., in which each member received the Adventure Award. The 36-member troop, led by Robert J. Wert and assistant leader Sisk and Lake Forester attended the National Jamboree from July 15 to 24.

Ground was broken Sunday by Brainerd Baptist Church for its new $670,000 sanctuary to be built at Brookfield and Mayfair Avenues. Rev. J. Ralph McIntyre, pastor; Clifton Ward, building committee chairman; and Tom Erwin, chairman of deacons, participated in the ceremony.
David Harsh, manager of Koehring Southern plant, which has reopened its facilities here, was honored Monday at a luncheon at Town & Country Restaurant. Hosts for the occasion were members of the Industrial Committee of 100 expansion committee.
Tuesday, July 28
Some 100 employees of Chattanooga Electric Power Board honored George Parker, retiring general manager, with a dinner at Wimberly Inn. Parker, who retires August 1, will be succeeded by C.B. Johnson, who served as official host for the occasion.
Al S. Barger Tuesday morning was elected registrar-at-large of the Hamilton Election Commission effective August 1. Mr. Barger succeeds Aubrey Clark, who’s on medical leave.

Gold Point Marina has purchased for $75,000 the marina on Chickamauga Lake it has leased for the past 15 years from the Tennessee Valley Authority. Ted Mapes is president and O.D. Riseden is secretary-treasurer of the Marina.
Thursday, July 30
State Highway Commissioner David Pack was the featured speaker at the dedication ceremonies Thursday morning for the new freeway link connecting 23rd Street with West Ninth Street. Cranston Pearce, chairman of the highways and freeways committee of the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, was master of ceremonies.
Mark Gang, Sr., retired grocer who was associated with the Dixie Savings Store for 47 years, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Friday, July 31
J. Frank Harrison, chairman and president of the Dorsey Corp., Wednesday reported sales of $17,185,641 for the preceding six months, as compared to $13,966,749 for the same period in 1963. Dorsey Corp. is engaged, through its subsidiary, Chattanooga Glass Co., in the manufacture of glass containers. The company has plants in Tennessee, Ohio, and Texas.
Southern Bell Telephone Company announced that C.A. Clarke has been appointed supervising construction foreman for the Chattanooga area effective immediately. Mr. Clarke, his wife, Reba, and son, Bill reside at 4708 Lake Haven Drive.
