Busses, trains and planes taking Chattanoogans home for the holidays were crowded Friday afternoon and night. The highways were busy and the state highway patrol is working overtime to check accidents the holidays always bring.

Plans for a $1 million subdivision development, Holiday Hills, were announced by J.D. Wade, Jr., owner of AAA Realty Co., and L.M. Quinn, Jr., homebuilder. The 111-lot subdivision site is just off Bonny Oaks Drive and near Chickamauga Lake.

State Welfare Department statistics released in November show more people in Hamilton County are receiving public assistance than a year ago. The total of all payments increased from $85,578 to $86,450. The average single payment was up from $41.66 to $44.65.

A light, twin-engine plane piloted by Lucius Allen Henson, former Central High School athlete, crashed about three miles south of Trenton, Ga., minutes after takeoff from Lovell Field Sunday night. Henson, his wife and two teenage sons were killed. The wreckage was found Monday afternoon in a farm field by a resident of the county.

A movement to widen Ringgold Road through East Ridge apparently gained momentum Tuesday night at a public hearing held in the East Ridge city hall. Of the more than 50 persons attending, the greater number were owners of businesses along Ringgold Road.
Thursday, December 28
Snow, preceded by rain and sleet, buffeted the Chattanooga area on Wednesday night, giving Lookout and Signal Mountains a blanket of snow at least three inches deep and creating all-over hazardous driving conditions.

The pulp and paper mills in the 11-state Southern area represent an investment of $3.7 million. Florida has the largest expenditure of any state, with mills valued at $632 million.
