Chattanooga Business Elite has named Amanda Jelks “Best Attorney.” The award was presented to Jelks at the first Black Excellence of Chattanooga Awards at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
The ceremony was held to recognize successful minority entrepreneurs, minority-owned businesses and community organizations that are impacting the Chattanooga community.
“With all the legal talent in Chattanooga, it is indeed an honor to be recognized as the best in the industry,” Jelks said.
Jelks is the founder of Jelks Law, where she and her team assist individuals and families with estate planning, probate and business matters. She is licensed in Tennessee and Georgia.
Jelks has received numerous awards and honors over the past eight years, including the Urban League of Chattanooga’s Emerging Business of the Year Award. Super Lawyers named her a “Rising Star in Business Law,” while Chatter Magazine and the Chattanooga Times Free Press included Jelks on their list of the “Top 20 Under 40 Young Professionals in Chattanooga.” Jelks is also a recipient of Legal Aid of East Tennessee’s Pro Bono Excellence Award.
Aside from her legal practice, Jelks has a heart for women’s issues, community service and mentoring. In 2017, the City Council appointed her to the City of Chattanooga’s Health, Education and Housing Facilities board for a six-year term.
Jelks is also serving on the board of the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute and the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce’s Diversity and Inclusion Board. She also volunteers with The Company Lab and Launch.
A Chattanooga native, Jelks earned degrees from both the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and The Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis.
