Mardi Gras Ball
The Chattanooga Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will host its annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 29, 8 p.m., at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Police and fire department team up for community event
The Chattanooga Police Department will host a front porch lineup at three fire stations Saturday, Feb. 29, 3 p.m. The police department has been using front porch lineups to strengthen the ties between its officers and the community. The CPD will be giving away free gun locks, and the fire department will be collecting information to provide citizens with free smoke alarms, which it will install at a later date. The CPD will have its SWAT vehicle, motorcycles and bomb squad at the fire stations and CFD will have its fire trucks on display. Locations will include Station 4, 2181 Curtis St., Station 22, 6144 Dayton Blvd., and Station 21, 7700 E. Brainerd Road.
UT Board of Trustees hosting Town Hall meeting
The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees has announced a series of town hall meetings, the first of which will be held March 4 at UT Chattanooga.
The sessions are designed to gather input and feedback on the appointment of interim president Randy Boyd to the presidency of the UT System for a term of an additional five years. Boyd has served as interim president since November 2018.
The meetings are open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. The UTC session is set for 3-4:30 p.m. at the University Center Auditorium, 615 McCallie Ave.
Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti benefit dinner
The Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti will host its annual benefit dinner Friday, March 20, at Stratton Hall. A legacy reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will further the program’s work to prevent and treat malnutrition in Haiti. The keynote speaker will be Len Gengel, co-founder of Be Like Brit. Gengel’s work in Haiti began in 2010 after his 19-year-old daughter lost her life in an earthquake in Haiti. Register or donate
