The Tivoli Theatre Foundation will host a fundraising gala featuring bluegrass singer Alison Krauss Friday, Oct. 18, at Tivoli Theatre.
The event will support the foundation’s work to restore and promote the historic Tivoli Theatre, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium and Walker Theatre. Tickets with access to a pre-show VIP reception are available now. The reception will include heavy hors d’oeuvres by Lee Towery Catering, specialty cocktails, a complimentary open bar and a live auction. La Paz Taco Festival
La Paz Chattanooga will host the Taquiza taco festival Saturday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Miller Park.
Local restaurants Mexiville, Las Morelianas, El Mesón, Carnitas Carmelita, Taco Stop, Taquería Jalisco, El Gallo Giro, Mr. Burrito Grill, Cheese Dip and Chuy’s Tex Mex will participate. Visitors will purchase tokens at the Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union booths located on the south and north corners of the park and then trade the tokens for tacos from the participating restaurants.
The tacos will be judged in five categories by Erwin Ovalle of Ovalle’s One Plate At A Time Catering, Alex Hernandez of Conga Latin Food and Israel de Jesus of Alleia. The proceeds will benefit La Paz Chattanooga’s community engagement efforts. Information
They’re Bach!
The Chattanooga Bach Choir will return for the first of four Sunday afternoon concerts focusing on the composer’s choral works Oct. 20, 5 p.m., at Christ Church Episcopal, 663 Douglas St. The hourlong program will include Bach’s “Lord Christ, the only Son of God,” composed for the 18th Sunday after Trinity. The Alpha Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha will host its second annual charity bingo event to benefit the Walter E. Boehm Birth Defects Center on Saturday, Oct. 26, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 7111 Lee Highway. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Southern Adventist University Classic Car Show
Southern Adventist University will host its 16th annual Antique and Classic Car Show on Sunday, Oct. 27, noon-3 p.m. in the Mabel Wood Hall parking lot.
Trophies will be awarded for Best in Show and People’s Choice. NASCAR chaplain John Earnhardt will host and serve as one of the judges. Activities will include Boyd’s Speedway Racecar Simulator, a rock-climbing wall, door prizes, demonstrations of a working forge and live big band music. Crime prevention training for businesses
The Chattanooga Police Department will host free crime prevention training designed for business stakeholders interested in making their facility and employees as safe as possible. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Coca-Cola Bottling Company, 2111 W. Shepherd Road. A crime prevention specialist from the University of Tennessee’s Law Enforcement Innovation Center will lead the course and a translator will be present for Hispanic and Latino business owners and employees.
