Attorney Jerry Summers has been inducted into the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.

During an April 12 ceremony in Philadelphia, Summers was named a fellow of the organization. Summers is the founder of the Chattanooga-based law firm Summers, Rufolo & Rodgers.

University of Tennessee College of Law Dean Melanie Wilson said she’s gratified to see Summers and his “storied legal career” recognized in this way.

“He has dedicated his life to serving others through the practice of law,” she said. “He is one of the University of Tennessee’s most distinguished alumni and a leader in the Tennessee legal community.”

The American Academy of Appellate Lawyers is a nonprofit organization aimed at advancing the administration of justice and promoting the highest standards of professionalism and advocacy in appellate courts.

In addition to this honor, Summers is a lifetime member of the College of Law Dean’s Circle and was recognized with the University of Tennessee’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2016.

Summers is one of two College of Law graduates to become a fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and one of only four Tennesseans. Alumnus George T. “Buck” Lewis is also a fellow.
